On June 11th at 7pm, a general meeting was held to discuss strategies for stopping the gas pipeline. We were planning to use the creamery building at the Jacksonville Center, but too many people showed up and we had to move outside.
Kirby Harris, on the Floyd Board of Supervisors, told us he would make a motion to the Board to draft a resolution against the pipeline. This motion passed, 3 to 1, at the board meeting on June 12th.
We have established committees to apportion the work ahead, and are reaching out to other counties along the proposed pipeline route, to develop a united front of resistance. In Virginia these include Giles, Bland, Montgomery, Pulaski, Floyd, Patrick and Henry.
An organizational meeting for Blue Ridge Coalition Floyd Chapter committees was held at Blue Mountain School on Monday, June 18, Monday at 7 pm. A comprehensive plan of action is being developed. If you are interested in contributing your time to outreach, communication, legal/political liason, or fundraising, please contact the appropriate party via e-mail in the local contacts section below.
On Monday, July 16, a meeting was held in the
FCHS Auditorium at 7 PM. The general public was invited to attend to
hear what the Floyd Chapter of the BRC has found out so far to develop
strategies to stop this pipeline from going through Floyd County.
